Sinan Institute takes its name from the sinan (司南)—the world's earliest compass, invented in ancient China over two thousand years ago. Carved from lodestone, it pointed the way for travelers crossing unknown terrain. We carry this spirit into the present: in an age of profound transformation, societies need instruments of orientation more than ever.
